Singapore is a multiracial country and will continue to be one for the remaining years of its existence. However, being multiracial does not mean a hundred percent of acceptance and tolerance between the difference races. There are still subtle stereotypes and acts of racism that still linger in our beautiful country. Through comedy, I wish to tackle this issues of discrimination head on. There is no better way than through comedy to talk about societal problems.

SUPPORT THIS PROJECT

In order to hire my comedians and begin on this project immediately, I would need to money to pay them for their livelihood. This money calculates to $1500 per comedian, per month. For a total of 4 comedians for 4 months. I would also need to rent the black box which costs $500 per rental.

The problem with comedy is that it is not a fully recognised and paid profession in Singapore unlike in countries such as Taiwan or the United States. Nobody pays to watch a comedian speak in bars or clubs. I wish to change this by paying my comedians the proper salary. My team and I wish to embark on this project with a 100% focus and not have to deal with our work on the sidelines. As such, we intend to take a 4 months hiatus from our work. However, we will all be living together in a shared apartment to save cost. We also wish to rent a black box at the NLB building at Bugis in order to have the full experience of a proper stand-up comedy. Rental also requires money and we wish to rent the actual black box at least 3 times for a full run rehearsal in order to give the best performance possible.
