The Story So Far
A teacher by day and father by night, Hamka’s true passion in life is dance.
Hamka first picked up dancing when he was a student at the Nanyang Technological University. He fell in love with Modern Jazz after taking a dance module and has not stopped dancing since.
Dancing for almost a decade, a sampling of Hamka’s dance credentials include appearances on Singapore Idol, Singapore’s Best Dance Crew, Charlie Lim’s Bitter Music Video, and winning NTU Dance Off, with the Wee Kim Wee Dance Crew.
Hamka’s love for giving back stems from his troubled childhood. A ‘bad’ student as Hamka would say so himself, he was a student who frequently skipped school. He credits his secondary 2 English teacher Mr Lim for helping him get back on the right track in life. He subsequently became a teacher to give back and help troubled school, opting to teach only in Neighbourhood Schools.
Today Hamka dances on weekends for the Singapore Dance Theatrics Company. A passionate dancer, Hamka wants to create his own dance performance to showcase to the rest of Singapore.
